NSUUK Founder, Yemi Soile discusses new immigration policy with Andrew Marr

Yesterday, 22nd of May 2023, the Founder and Head Coordinator of NIgerian students’ Union UK had an insightful interview with British journalist and broadcaster, Andrew Marr on his show on LBC radio.
.
They discussed the new controversial immigration policy being proposed by the UK government, that will see all foreign masters students and many other postgraduates banned from bringing family over.
.
Yemi was able to make some cases for current and prospective Nigerian students, arguing that the proposed policy is unethical and irrational.
International students definitely need the moral support of their family, studying at  Masters level or higher in the UK can be very challenging and having ones family around certainly helps. He pointed out that Nigerians are family oriented and love education.
.
Another important point he raised was that, Nigerian Students pay a lot of money to study in the UK thereby contributing significantly to the UK economy, introducing this law will make Nigerian students shun the UK and look elsewhere.
He also mentioned that the government should focus more on the alarming rate of daily illegal migration through the channel rather than focusing on Legal migration by International students.
.
Finally, he pointed out that if the issue is that some people are abusing the dependant visa policy by bring 4, 5 or more dependants while coming to study in the UK, then cases as such should be dealt with, on a case by case basis, rather than the government using a blanket rule for all international students.
